A Short Story Sale<\/h2>\n

When Words Collide 2022<\/h2>\n

This time around, I was on just two panels: 1) Bread, Brewing and Babies and 2) Dystopian Science Fiction.<\/p>\n

Sadly, we’ve learned that 2023 will be the last When Words Collide festival, at least with the current leadership crew at the helm. There comes a time when even the most capable volunteers want to and deserve to take a rest. Thank you for all the years of top-notch programing you’ve brought us over the years, Randy McCharles and team!<\/p>\n

Pandemic Projects<\/h2>\n

Like many other writers, I’ve been taking advantage of our isolation to write, edit, write some more, and re-write a lot. I’ve got the second draft of one book in the works, half a first draft of another one done, and am in the early stages of outlining yet a third. I’ve also written the longest short story of my career to date and am now marketing it around. My beta readers tell me it’s a “fun read”, so fingers crossed.<\/p>\n

When Words Collide 2021<\/h2>\n

Once again, I took part in a few panel discussions hosted by the When Words Collide festival in August: 1) Ghosts–Gruesome, Garrulous, and Godly, 2) Imagery, Theme, and Titles, and 3) the Historical Fiction slush pile judges’ panel. At some point, the first two of these might be posted to the festival YouTube site. Stay tuned.<\/p>\n

When Words Collide 2020 Panel Videos<\/h2>\n

Thanks to COVID-19, the one publication containing a short story of mine slated for 2020 release is now on hold until 2021. Stay tuned! In the meantime, I participated on a number of panels at the virtual rendition of the annual When Words Collide festival in August. It’s that time of year again. Holiday season,\u00a0 yes, but also our reading period for story submissions to the 2017 issue of Analemma Books’ Enigma Front<\/em> anthology series. We’ve received some excellent pieces so far and I’m looking forward to what else shows up before the early February submission deadline.<\/p>\n

Enigma Front: Burnt<\/em> is the second publication launched by Analemma Books<\/a>. I have been privileged to serve as Senior Editor this time around and also have had my short story \u201cThe Cure\u201d chosen for inclusion in the book, which contains contributions by award-winning authors such as Robert J. Sawyer, Jayne Barnard, and Ron S. Friedman, as well as many exciting upcoming and brand new authors. We are also honored to have Craig DiLouie as the author of our forward this year.<\/p>\n

Thank you so very much to all the wonderful people who came and listened to our authors read passages from their stories. And congratulations to the lucky winners of our door prizes: books, posters, and bottles of Enigma wine!<\/p>\n

Coming Out in August 2015: Enigma Front<\/em><\/h2>\n

For the past few months, I’ve had my nose to the grindstone co-editing an exciting new anthology called Enigma Front<\/em>. Our theme is “a wave of possibility rolls across the land and nothing remains the same in its wake”. Anything can, and does, happen! We’ve got dragons, dinosaurs, earthquakes, aliens, sinister artists, clowns… Never a dull moment!<\/p>\n

The volume will feature eighteen stories written by members of our Imaginative Fiction Writers Association (IFWA), including works by Robert J. Sawyer, Brent Nichols, Tim Reynolds, Adria Laycraft, Renee Bennett, Ron S. Friedman and a bevy of others–me too.<\/p>\n

We’re aiming to launch Enigma Front<\/em> in August at the When Worlds Collide festival. It will be available in both print and e-book format. Our awesome cover artwork has been done by Brent Nichols.<\/p>\n

Amok: An Anthology of Asia-Pacific Speculative Fiction<\/em> Made the 2015 Aurora Aurealis Awards Shortlist<\/h2>\n
